Evaluation of Thermal Radiation Models for Fire

MEFE Candidate: Rob Fleury

Co-Supervisors: Dr. Michael Spearpoint, Associate Professor Charles Fleischmann

Research Aims

The work will aim to evaluate the performance of a number of thermal radiation models with respect to item-to-item fire spread within a compartment. The scope of the analysis will be limited to direct radiation exchange and will therefore ignore contributions from the compartment surfaces and the hot upper gas layer. These latter aspects will be covered by PhD student Greg Baker. The results from the direct radiative exchange analysis will feed into the work carried out by Greg Baker. The work will aim to provide BRANZ with recommendations as to the effectiveness of different radiation models for a range of conditions. It is expected that these recommendations will be taken into account in the development of the forthcoming version of BRANZFIRE.
